A WOMAN who died in a car crash on the M8 on Sunday was a tourist on holiday in the UK, police have revealed.

The 54-year-old woman was named as Pushpaka, from the state of Karnataka, India.

She had been visiting relatives in England, who are now understood to be making arrangements to have her body returned to India.

The accident happened on the east-bound carriageway of the M8 Glasgow to Edinburgh road, about half a mile west of Junction Two around the Newbridge area, at about 11am on Sunday.

A maroon Honda Civic was travelling towards Edinburgh when it went out of control, hitting a crash barrier.

Four people were injured in the crash, and taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The road was closed off to traffic for approximately five hours while police investigated the fatal incident.

Police said they were no longer looking for witnesses to the crash.
