The Keta Municipality has numerous tourism attractions, which need to be developed, in order to attract tourists to the area, not only to generate more revenue for the Assembly, but also to help accelerate the development of the municipality.
Some of the tourist attractions were the Keta Beach, the Keta Lagoon, Priezenten Fort at Keta, and a new discovery, made about a year ago, the Africa Home Lodge at Dzita, about ten minutes drive from Attorkor , on the main Anloga and Dabala road.
The Africa Home Lodge, which is popularly known in the municipality as "meet me there," could best be described as "a place where man is totally at peace with nature," due to the fact that everything at the Lodge was local.
A visit to the place recently, confirmed that it was the only place in the region, if not nationwide, where reed mats were used for carpeting, a clay pot as fridge, calabash for drinking, instead of glasses, coconut trees planted in each of the thirteen rooms, which were made of mud and roofed with thatch.
Another interesting aspect of this tourist attraction, was that all the five toilets (water closets) and four bathrooms, were made with clay as well as the beds for guests, but due to its beauty it takes sometime for visitors, to see at a glance, that all these were made with natural and local materials.
Animals such as crocodiles, tortoises, guinea pigs and weaver birds, were some of the side attractions, apart from the beautiful lagoon, which surrounds the Lodge, with a canoe for those who are adventurous enough to travel on it, under the eagle eyes of a guide, to ensure the safety of guests.
However, the only problem, which needed to be addressed, was the poor road network to the place, which should be addressed as a matter of urgency, as the sea has "chopped up" the road at Akplorwotorkor, a community on the road to the Africa Home Lodge, and drivers had to divert from the road.
The General Manager of the Africa Home Lodge, Ms. Dorcas Akpey, said even though the place was hidden, people who hear of it appreciate the serene environment, and the local facilities, as well as the preparation of both local and continental foods.
