About 1,000 to 1,500 people visit Murghazar Zoo daily to spend some time there and take refuge from their otherwise mundane routines.
Zoo Director Raja Javeed on Monday told The Post that over 300 animals, including 200 birds of different kinds, and tigers, lions, elephants and monkeys were kept in the zoo. A large number of students visit the zoo to enjoy their holidays and fresh air at foothills of Margalla Hills.
"We have seen elephants, leopards, bear, dears, peacocks and many other birds and animals" said a visitor, Rida Ali. Farukh, a student, said, "The zoo is small but animals are kept in a fresh and clean environment and it is a good place for children to enjoy themselves."
The director said more than 60 personnel look after the animals and birds. He said the management examines the birds on a daily basis and vaccinate them every year. He said animals and birds had been imported from all over the world.
