A tourist from south Wales has died in Turkey after plunging more than 60ft (18.2m) from a hotel balcony, the Foreign Office has confirmed.

Adam Thomas, 22, from Llangynwyd near Maesteg, Bridgend county, fell from the fifth-floor balcony last Friday.

Mr Thomas and girlfriend Leah Powell, 27, were on holiday in the resort of Icmeler, on Turkey's south-east coast.

His parents, Tudor and Shirley Thomas, have flown out to the Mediterranean to bring their son's body home.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office confirmed that he was seriously injured in a fall from a hotel balcony last Friday and died later in hospital.

She said: "His family were told immediately and are being given assistance by our consulate in Turkey."
